Prenatal Personal Training

The journey to motherhood can be both an incredibly exciting and daunting time, filled with many new physical and emotional experiences, challenges and uncertainties - especially around what is and isn’t considered safe. At Invigorate, we are here to provide the support and motivation you need to move your body safely throughout your pregnancy in preparation for the birth of your child.

There are many benefits of regular exercise during pregnancy including improved sleep, healthy weight gain and a strong body to accommodate the physiological changes you will experience growing baby. Regular exercise and safe stretching can also alleviate pregnancy-related aches and pains and promote a quicker recovery post-pregnancy.

Whilst designing a prenatal movement program that supports your lifestyle and movement goals, we will also focus on the importance of:

  • Integrated breath and pelvic floor control

  • Safe and effective core strength

  • Lower back and hip stability

  • Full body mobility and strength to support pregnancy-related imbalances

  • Restorative and calming breathwork for stress management


 

initial consultation & movement assessment

First, let’s talk about your movement goals and pre-pregnancy movement practice /injury history. This is an opportunity for us to learn more about how we can best work together to support your movement through pregnancy.

In your first session we'll look at how your body moves in functional movement patterns that require a balance of mobility and stability to determine if there are any imbalances, asymmetries or limitations. We will also assess your postural alignment, breath, pelvic floor and core control. From here, we can prescribe exercises specific to your needs and program a safe training plan with purpose, that aligns with your movement goals.

 

Our Pregnancy Experiences

After working with women pre and post-pregnancy for the last 5 years, I was thrilled when it was my turn! My fiancé and I welcomed our daughter Isla Rose into the world in May 2021.

My prenatal journey was fairly smooth sailing but definitely brought about some unexpected physiological and emotional changes that I wasn’t expecting - especially related to movement and exercise. With my previous background in dance and being very active most of my life, I’ll be honest, I thought exercising throughout my pregnancy would be a breeze. This was definitely not the case. I experienced very acute hip and S.I. joint pain that made even walking in my third trimester painful at times - so exercising looked very different from what I was used to. I was also diagnosed with Placenta Previa at 20 weeks which meant I had to adjust my expectations around exercise. I focused mainly on safe core and hip stability exercises along with gentle mobility to keep my body moving which I found made huge difference in my day-to-day pain management. It was far from the exercise plan I had for myself going into the pregnancy, but it has really helped me to empathize with other women’s prenatal journeys. I am excited to share my learnings and provide a safe space for other women to find the joy in movement both during pregnancy, postpartum and beyond.


Hannah has a way of making an hour fly by! She is high-energy, knowledgeable and lots of fun to train with. She puts together really personalized sessions and didn’t skip a beat when we had to adjust to prenatal exercises. I leave feeling great, but I am definitely sore (in the right places) the next day!
